Therefore, some improvements have been made in the design of cemented carbide alloy pieces used in cemented carbide drill bits, such as wedge pieces, column teeth, and ball teeth, and the most used are the straight and cross-shaped ones.

Mining tool material grade choice

In the coal mining industry, generally speaking, the rocks in coal mines are softer, mostly limestone, sandstone and shale, so the straight and cross-shaped drill bits inlaid with YG8C cemented carbide are used.

In geological exploration, to find out the bottom conditions of an area, the main method of drilling to extract rocks is used, and the most used drill bit material is cemented carbide. In geological exploration, the cemented carbide grades used are mainly YG6 and YG8.

Mining cemented carbide mainly uses grades with higher cobalt content in tungsten-cobalt alloys, especially coarse-grained tungsten carbide with lower cobalt content, which are also widely used in impact drilling. Mining cemented carbide must have the two characteristics of not being easily damaged under impact load and having high wear resistance.

The selection of mining cemented carbide grades should be based on the ore and rock conditions.

  • YG4C is suitable for geological exploration, coal mining, electric drills and pneumatic drill bits, and drilling into coal seams, potassium salt, rock salt and other rock formations.
  • YG15 has the highest toughness and can withstand strong impact loads. Application: heavy rock drills drill hard and extremely hard rock formations
  • YG11C has higher toughness and can withstand strong impact loads. It has higher wear resistance than YG15. Application: used for heavy rock drills drill hard and medium-hard rock formations
  • YG13C is suitable for manufacturing oil rotary drills; drilling hard and medium-hard rock formations, and is also suitable for drill bits for impact rotary rock drills and heavy rock drills.
  • YG8C is a coarse-grained tungsten-cobalt alloy that can withstand impact loads, has high use strength, and excellent wear resistance
  • YG8 has lower toughness than the above alloys, but higher wear resistance than the above grades, and can withstand lower impact loads
